Convicted of killing an ex-girlfriend in Illinois, during 1983, David Young was paroled from the state penitentiary in the autumn of 1986.

Three months later, in Washington, Indiana, he married Theresa Rasico, five years his senior, at the end of a whirlwind courtship. They were separated by July 1987, and Young responded typically to rejection, crushing Rasico's skull during a fight at Loogootee, Indiana.

Arrested by Illinois authorities a month later, Young confessed to other homicides in California, Idaho and Utah, including two female victims and one man. 

Returned to Indiana for trial, he entered a plea bargain with local prosecutors in November 1987 and was sentenced to 35 years in prison for killing his ex-wife.
