In 1997, Stayner was hired as a handyman at the Cedar Lodge motel in
El Portal,
just outside the Highway 140 Arch Rock entrance to Yosemite National Park.

Cary Stayner noticed Joie Armstrong when he drove by her house in
Yosemite.

He worked at Cedar Lodge in El Portal, where Juli Sund took this
photo of her mother and
friend shortly before Stayner killed them. Photo by Juli Sund via

Stayner killed them, put their bodies in a rental car, and set it on
fire.
