January 3, 1993
Zagreb, Croatia - A drunken soldier opened fire
during a New Year's party after arguing with a love rival, killing
nine people and wounding six, news reports said Saturday. The soldier
then killed himself.
Vinko Palic, 27, had left the party after the
argument, donned his army uniform and returned with an automatic
rifle. He fired into the crowd of holiday revelers, killing nine
people, including his rival, the woman whose affections he had sought
and his brother.
The shootings occurred early Friday in Zrinski
Topolovac, a village 40 miles northeast of the capital, Zagreb.
