Arrested on September 22, 1930, moments before his eighth marriage, Greek "Bluebeard" Peter Kulaxides was charged with slaying his first seven wives. In custody, Kulaxides admitted killing wife number seven, after she "told him lies," but he staunchly denied murdering the first six.

His incredible run of bad luck had begun, he informed detectives, when his first wife collapsed from excitement and joy on receiving the news of Peter's release from prison, where he was incarcerated on felony charges. From there, it was all downhill, with one wife after another succumbing to "natural causes." The court rejected his sad story, and Kulaxides was convicted of murder charges.
