Convicted murderer Johan Kotze and his three
co-accused have received life sentences in the North Gauteng Court
on Wednesday.
Kotze and Andries Sithole were sentenced to
life imprisonment for the murder of Kotze's ex-wife Ina Bonnette's
son Conrad Bonnette (19) and 10 years for kidnapping.
Judge Bert Bam found Kotze and Sithole guilty
on Monday of killing Conrad. Their co-accused, Pieta Mohlake and
Sello Mphaka, were acquitted on the murder charge.
However, all four were convicted of kidnapping,
and also found guilty of four charges relating to the rape of Ina
Bonnette.
Mohlake and Mphaka received 10 years for
kidnapping. All four men were given a life sentence on the rape
charges.
On charges relating to assault with intent to
do grievous bodily harm Kotze received 15 years while the other
three received eight years each.
Bonnette, who was in court on Wednesday, cried
as the sentence was read out. She was supported by family and
friends. A family member of one of Kotze's co-accused started
wailing.
Defence
A defence psychologist testified on July 3 that
Kotze had a narcissistic personality disorder and suffered from an
acute stress disorder and major depression, which resulted in a
state of dissociation during the incident.
However, a psychologist testified for the state
that Kotze did not suffer from any mental disorders and could be
held accountable for his actions.
Sithole, Mohlane, and Mphaka claimed Kotze had
threatened to shoot them if they did not co-operate. They said
they pretended to rape Bonnette because they could not get
erections.
Bonnette testified that the three men looked on
while Kotze sexually tortured her and mutilated her breasts, then
took turns raping her.
She was still tied to a bed with tape over her
mouth when she heard her son Conrad repeatedly say, "Please uncle,
don't shoot", followed by three shots.
Conrad Bonnette died at the scene after being
shot in the face, chest, and knee. Ina Bonnette had to undergo
reconstructive surgery and was put on antiretroviral treatment
after it emerged that Sithole had tested positive for HIV
following his arrest.
Prosecutor Retha Meintjes argued that all the
accused were guilty of attempting to murder Ina Bonnette because
of Sithole's HIV status.
'Russian roulette'
Sithole's advocate Jan van Rooyen, and Francois
van As, for Mohlane and Mphaka, argued that their clients had not
been aware of Sithole's or their own HIV status, and could not be
convicted of attempted murder.
Van As argued that his clients had "played
Russian roulette" because they did not know each other or the
victim's HIV status.
Bam remarked that he had not heard of a rapist
who first asked his victim if she had Aids. Van As said his
clients were just as traumatised as Bonnette because Kotze had
threatened to kill them. He argued that the absence of DNA
evidence supported his clients' version that they had not raped
Bonnette.
The absence of any physical injuries to
Bonnette also supported this. "Their intention was not to go there
and rape her. They were there against their will. There is ample
evidence to support their version that they were threatened," Van
As said.
Piet Greyling, for Kotze, said the court should
accept Kotze's version that the other three acted on their own and
that Kotze had not threatened them with a firearm.
"He was angry with her. It was coincidence that
they became co-perpetrators," Greyling said. – Sapa

Pretoria - The man known as the Modimolle
Monster - Johan Kotze - receives “lots of fan mail” from “women
all over the country”.
Kotze’s lawyer Piet Greyling, speaking to eNCA
news channel ahead of Kotze’s sentencing for a brutal attack on
his ex-wife Ina Bonnette and the murder of her son Conrad, said on
Wednesday morning “the ladies love Johan”.
A Facebook page titled “Johan Kotze The
Modimolle Monster Saga - RSA Jan 2012” has almost 500 supporters.
As sentencing proceeded in court, so messages appeared on the
page.
Thereza Campbell wrote: “Johan no matter what
they say: We who know and love you will be with you and we will
walk this path with you every day. We are proud of the man you
are.”
This comes after Kotze on Tuesday declared “I
never wanted sensation” when asked how he felt about his pending
prison sentence.
The Pretoria High Court was a sea of purple
before the sentencing on Wednesday of Kotze and his co-accused.
Supporters of Bonnette arrived in droves,
wearing purple clothing in a show of support.
Half an hour before proceedings were to begin,
the public gallery was jam-packed.
Bonnette, supported by her parents Piet and
Fiena Swanepoel as well as her daughter Angelique, took their
seats in the second row of the gallery.
Cameras clicked as more family and friends
arrived, all wearing purple silk flower brooches signalling their
feelings against abuse and the rape of women.
Several friends were also wearing purple
shirts, scarfs and, some of the men, purple ties.
A friend of Bonnette, who dyed her hair purple,
said Ina was seen as the voice against abuse and rape of women and
the flowers symbolised her strength.
Bonnette’s first husband Rex Bonnette arrived
too. He is the father of her 19-year-old son Conrad who was shot
dead by Kotze during his harrowing attack on Bonnette in January
last year.
High-profile prosecutor Glynnis Breytenbach
also arrived to watch the sentencing, as did Minister of Women,
Children and People with Disablities Lulu Xingwana.
Bonnette’s daughter Angelique’s court evidence
presented on Tuesday told how she believed “Kotze ruined our
lives”.
The 17-year-old told a social worker that in
killing Conrad, Kotze took away someone very dear to her.
The report by the social worker was yesterday
handed to court in aggravation of sentence for Kotze and his three
co-perpetrators, Andries Sithole, Pieta Mohlane and Sello Frans
Mphaka.
Angelique told the social worker: “Everything
changed after the incident.
“At first everything was in a mess. Nothing was
nice any more.
“It felt as if everyone’s lives were ruined and
that there was no reason to continue.
“On family days everyone sat with their eyes
filled with tears and with broken hearts. It is still so. Kotze
ruined our lives and took someone away whom we loved dearly.
During festive occasions when everyone should be happy, we are sad
and we wish the festive season would end because there is someone
short.
“Conversations with my family become quiet when
the heartache and missing become too much.
“My father (Rex Bonnette) and I do not talk
about my brother.
“He avoids the subject.
“He thinks it is all my mother’s fault and this
negatively influences our relationship.
“I no longer do so well at school.
“I keep myself busy with music and writing
poems. I do not want to get married and have children.”
According to the report, both Bonnette and her
daughter received 13 sessions of counselling, but they would need
long-term therapy.
The impact of her ordeal when she was attacked
by her then estranged husband and three masked men took its toll
on Bonnette. Apart from being subjected to the pain and
humiliation of having her body mutilated, she also had to live
with the fear of contracting HIV.
According to the social worker, the short-term
impact was that Bonnette had nightmares and flashbacks about what
happened.
The long-term impact on Bonnette was that she
had to correct some of the false perceptions of the community
regarding her as a person.
She had to face the world every day and
continue with her life.
Both she and her daughter paid a high price by
being rejected by some people and by being viewed with suspicion,
the court was told. The social worker said attending the trial was
especially difficult for Bonnette.
In this regard she said: “I feel I have to
prove my innocence throughout the trial.
“Why does he not just admit all?
“I feel I want to correct wrong perceptions the
whole time, because it is ruining my life.”
Bonnette not only had to deal with her own
physical pain but also with the trauma of hearing her only son die
at Kotze’s hands.
Bonnette, once again supported by friends in
court, kept a brave face as she faced the cameras, but she once
again declined to speak.
She said this week that she was doing “okay”
and indicated that she would comment to the media once the case
was over.
While the man dubbed the Modimolle Monster
ruined many lives, he didn’t want his story to be “sensationalised”,
he said.
“I just want to say I never wanted sensation,”
a soft-spoken Johan Kotze, with tears in his eyes, told the media
from the dock in the Pretoria High Court. Asked whether he wanted
to say anything, Kotze responded that he would comment on
Wednesday after his fate had been sealed.
He hugged family and friends in the public
gallery, and for a few seconds listened to their words of
encouragement, before he was led down to the holding cells,
appearing tired and sombre.
Acting Judge Bert Bam has sentenced Kotze, to
life in prison.

Judge Bert Bam found him and one of his
co-accused, Andries Sithole, guilty of killing his then wife Ina
Bonnette's son Conrad Bonnette, 19.
The other two co-accused were acquitted on the
murder charge.
However, Kotze, Sithole, Pieta Mohlake and
Sello Mphaka were all convicted of kidnapping and of four charges
relating to the rape of Bonnette.
"It is obvious that all four are guilty of it,"
said Bam.
In addition, Kotze was found guilty of assault
with intent to do grievous bodily harm, instead of the more
serious charge of attempted murder.
The judge found Bonnette's testimony to be
believable.
"It wouldn't have been strange if she was at
times unsure of events," acting Judge Bam said in his judgment.
Bam said Bonnette was cross-examined by three
experienced attorneys. He said this must have been traumatic and
painful for her.
"She is just a human being. Any person makes
mistakes," Bam said.
He said it was not uncommon for a witness, who
was as emotional as Bonnette, to be unsure at times. He said she
was not a perfect witness, and that it was not realistic to think
such a person existed.
"There was a sound of truth [to her
testimony]."
One of many examples of this was her testifying
that, after the rape, she pleaded with her eyes for Kotze's three
co-accused to help her.
"It is unlikely that any witness would think of
something like that," said Bam.
Afterwards, as Bonnette looked at the four men
in the dock, a friend told her: "You are allowed to cry Ina
Bonnette. You are allowed to cry."
Asked how she felt about the judgment, Bonnette
said: "I am okay". She declined to give further comment.
Kotze hugged friends in the gallery before
being taken down to the holding cells.
He had denied guilt, and claimed he could not
be held accountable for his actions on January 3, 2012, the day he
murdered Bonnette's son and tortured her in his Modimolle home.
Sithole, Mohlake, and Mphaka claimed Kotze
threatened to shoot them if they did not co-operate.
National Prosecuting Authority spokesman Medupi
Simasiku welcomed the judgment.
"Yes, we are happy and we hope it brings
closure to the family."
He hoped the judgment would serve as a lesson
that these types of crimes did not go unpunished.
The matter was postponed to Tuesday morning for
arguments in mitigation of sentencing.

Ina Bonnette's ex-husband took the stand on
Wednesday in the trial of so-called "Modimolle monster" Johan
Kotze and his three co-accused in the High Court in Pretoria.
Kotze, Andries Sithole, Pieta Mohlake, and
Sello Mphaka have pleaded not guilty to kidnapping, assaulting,
raping, and attempting to murder Kotze's ex-wife Ina Bonnette, and
murdering her 19-year-old son Conrad in Kotze's home in Modimolle
on January 3, 2012.
On Wednesday, Rex Bonnette
testified about the day he heard his son was killed. He said his
sister phoned him around 6pm on January 3 and said: "Kotze shot a
child."
He said he assumed it was one of his
children.
"I was later phoned by Ina who said
there was an incident and Conrad didn't make it," Rex Bonnette
told the court.
He said he made sure his
daughter was safe, and the next day he met Ina Bonnette at the
Modimolle police station. A doctor examined her that day. They
spoke about what had happened and more details about the attack
came to light.
Rex Bonnette said Ina told him
Kotze held three men at gunpoint and forced them to rape her.
"If they didn't rape her he would shoot them," he told the court.
During cross-examination Rex Bonnette was told by a State
prosecutor that Ina Bonnette testified the weapon was aimed at
her.
"She did mention that at a stage," Rex
Bonnette said. There were few questions for Rex Bonnette and he
finished his testimony.
The case was adjourned
until Thursday morning.
At the time of
Bonnette's attack she was married to Kotze, but lived in her own
flat.
Kotze had hired the three to do work at
his house in Modimolle.
The State alleges Kotze
orchestrated the revenge attack on Bonnette and her son.
New psychological evidence
against 'Modimolle monster'

The State is expected to present new psychological evidence about
the mental state of so-called "Modimolle monster" Johan Kotze in
the High Court in Pretoria on Wednesday.
Clinical psychologist Cobus Coetzee is expected to testify about
his findings that Kotze can be held criminally responsible for
allegedly attacking his wife Ina Bonnette and killing her
19-year-old son Conrad.
The State has already
handed in Coetzee's report as evidence, but will call him to the
witness stand on Wednesday.
Kotze, Andries
Sithole, Pieta Mohlake and Sello Mphaka, are on trial for
allegedly murdering Conrad and kidnapping, assaulting, repeatedly
raping and attempting to murder Bonnette in Kotze's home in
Modimolle on January 3, 2012.
Kotze claimed he
could not be held accountable for his actions.
His three co-accused testified he threatened them with a firearm
and forced them to get on top of his wife. They said they did not
rape Bonnette because they could not get erections.
Coetzee observed Kotze at the Weskoppies psychiatric hospital in
Pretoria, with two other psychiatrists, for two months. The other
two found no psychiatric diagnoses could be made.
The State has contended that there were insufficient grounds for
clinical psychologist Tertia Spangenberg's findings that Kotze
could not be held accountable for his alleged criminal actions
because of non-pathological criminal incapacity.
On Tuesday, the State concluded cross-examining Mphaka, who
repeatedly denied looking on while Kotze tortured and mutilated
Bonnette before taking turns with the others to rape her.
Johan Kotze and Andries Sithole had planned the "surprise" gang
rape of Kotze's wife Ina Bonnette, one of the alleged rapists
testified in the High Court in Pretoria.
Kotze,
Sithole, Pieta Mohlane and Sello Mphaka are on trial for allegedly
kidnapping, raping and assaulting Bonnette and murdering her
19-year-old son, Conrad, in Modimolle on January 3 last year.
Kotze claimed he could not be held accountable for his actions.
The other three claimed they acted under duress and pretended to
rape Bonnette.
Mohlane testified he met Sithole
the day before the crime and accompanied him and Mphaka to Kotze's
Modimolle house, under the impression that they had to wash a
caravan.
After their arrival, they removed and
replanted trees while waiting for Kotze's wife to arrive. Later
that afternoon, Kotze called them inside, where Sithole told them
their job was to have sex with Kotze's wife.
"He
said it would be a surprise for Kotze's wife. The surprise was
that she would have sex with three black men. Kotze and his wife
agreed that it would happen and his wife was in a hurry to see it
happen.
"Andries [Sithole] said the woman would
pretend not to know what was happening. He said she had to be tied
up and gagged... She was noisy during sex and they didn't want the
neighbours to hear.
"He told us to put pantyhose
over our heads so that she would not see our faces. Mphaka and I
said we would not do such a thing. Kotze must pay us. Then we will
go," he said.
Kotze became angry when they
refused to co-operate, pointed a firearm at them, and told them to
do as he said.
He told Mohlane and Mphaka to
stay in the cupboard while Sithole hid behind the door. Mohlane
waited in the cupboard until the heard a woman screaming.
When they came out, they saw a naked Bonnette tied to the bed with
Sithole taping her mouth shut.
"Andries took off
his pants and slept with the woman while Kotze stood next to them.
Kotze told us to get ready to sleep with that woman. Mphaka
climbed on her. He was there for about two minutes before Kotze
told him to get off and gestured that I must get on.
"I was very frightened and could not get an erection, so I
pretended to pull down my zip and lay on top of her.
"Kotze took me off his wife and told me and Mphaka to go and wait
in the kitchen. He said he was waiting for someone and he would
let us go when that person arrived.
"We asked
Andries who Kotze was waiting for. He said it was Mrs Bonnette's
child. They were busy phoning him. Andries said Kotze wanted to
hit the child," Mohlane said.
After fleeing from
the scene, Mohlane and Mphaka asked Sithole why he had taken them
there "to do such things".
"He said it was not
our problem. It was that man and his wife's problem. Those people
are not fighting any more. They were talking nicely when we left.
"I said he knew what was going to happen at Kotze's house... He
did not have to be told what to do. He already knew and gave us
instructions."
'Modimolle monster' and
Bonnette 'agreed on sex'

There was an agreement between the man dubbed the "Modimolle
monster" and his wife that she would have sex with three men, the
High Court in Pretoria heard on Tuesday.
One of
Johan Kotze's co-accused, Andries Sithole, testified how he
translated Kotze's orders the day his ex-wife, Ina Bonnette, was
attacked in his Modimolle home on January 3, 2012.
Francois van As, for Kotze's other two co-accused Pieta Mohlane
and Frans Mphaka, said his clients were told Kotze and Bonnette
agreed she would sleep with three black men and he would arrange
it for her.
"That's what Mr Kotze told me,"
Sithole said.
He said he translated Kotze's
orders to Mohlane and Mphaka.
Kotze is accused
of mutilating and orchestrating the gang-rape of Bonnette, and of
murdering his stepson Conrad, 19. At the time Bonnette was married
to Kotze, but lived in her own flat.
Sithole,
Mohlane, and Mphaka are accused of kidnapping, assaulting,
repeatedly raping, and attempting to murder Bonnette.
Van As said that when the two men asked why they must sleep with
Bonnette they were told Kotze said his wife was not getting enough
sex from him, he was too fat, and he suspected her of cheating.
Sithole testified Kotze told him when Bonnette arrived at the
house she would act as if she did not know what was going on.
"That's exactly what [Kotze] told me to tell [Mohlane and Mphaka]."
Van As said his clients did not want to have sex with Bonnette.
They wanted their money for the day's labour, and to go home.
Sithole agreed with this statement, adding: "This was what caused
[Kotze] to become aggressive and angry".
Van As
said Kotze then said: "I don't want to hear from a kaffir. They
will do what I say or they won't leave this house alive". Sithole
agreed.
Van As said his clients felt this was
only aimed at them and not Sithole.
"I can't
understand why it would only be aimed at them... I am also a
kaffir," Sithole said.
The three agreed Kotze
forced them, with a revolver, to either hide in the closet or
behind the closet door in the room where Bonnette was attacked.
Van As said that according to his clients, Bonnette was already
tied to the bed and had her pants pulled down when they were let
out of the closet. Sithole disputed this and said all three helped
Kotze.
"What happened there was we held Mrs
Bonnette down and it was [Kotze] who tied her up."
He said Bonnette was fighting against Kotze and he slapped her.
"He told her: 'Bokkie be quiet. They won't kill you. They are good
people'."
Earlier Sithole denied helping to plan
Bonnette's rape.
"That's not true," Sithole said
when Kotze's counsel Piet Greyling put it to him that he planned
the rape, knowing Kotze would not be able to protect Bonnette.
Greyling had submitted to Sithole that he, Mohlane and Mphaka knew
Kotze was emotional and tired on January 3, 2012.
"I wouldn't know [if he was tired]," Sithole said.
He also denied Greyling's submission that the three of them did
their planning inside the house while Kotze and Bonnette were
outside talking.
Before proceedings finished on
Tuesday Judge Bert Bam gave his ruling on the State's application
to reopen its case.
"My finding is that the
application by the State passes."
Bam said he
would give his reasons for allowing it at the end of the trial.
On Wednesday, prosecutor Retha Meintjes indicated the State wanted
to reopen its case to present evidence about Kotze's criminal
accountability in rebuttal of testimony by defence witness Tertia
Spangenberg, a clinical psychologist.
She had
testified that she did not consider Kotze accountable for his
actions. He was dissociated during the attack, and suffered from a
number of conditions including narcissistic personality disorder
and major depression, she told the court.
The
defence opposed the application.
On Monday,
Greyling submitted Kotze would be financially drained if the court
proceedings were extended.
He contended the
State had made an informed decision when it failed to call
clinical psychologist Dirk Coetzee, who assessed Kotze at
Weskoppies psychiatric hospital, in Pretoria, before closing its
case.
The trial was postponed to June 25.

A co-accused of so-called "Modimolle monster" Johan Kotze faked
having sex with Kotze's ex-wife Ina Bonnette, the High Court in
Pretoria heard on Monday.
"I moved up and down
as if I was penetrating her but it did not happen," Andries
Sithole said.
Dressed in a blue overall and a
green shirt, he recounted the events of January 3, 2012 when
Bonnette was attacked in Kotze's rented Modimolle home.
Kotze is accused of mutilating and orchestrating the gang-rape of
his then wife and murdering his stepson Conrad, 19. At the time
Bonnette was still married to Kotze, but lived in her own flat.
Kotze's co-accused, Sithole, Pieta Mohlane, and Frans Mphaka are
accused of kidnapping, assaulting, repeatedly raping, and
attempting to murder Bonnette that day.
Sithole
told the court how, on January 3, they worked outside Kotze's
house until he called the three of them inside around 2.45pm. They
were told Bonnette was on her way and to wait in a room.
Kotze then told them: "My wife does not get enough from me and I
want you three to sleep with her," Sithole testified.
Kotze told them to pull pantyhose over their heads, but they
objected.
"A kaffir does what I want him to do,"
Kotze allegedly told them.
"He threatened us
with a gun," Sithole said.
He testified how
Kotze covered Bonnette's head with a towel and ordered them to
help tie her to the bed.
Sithole said they did
what Kotze instructed as he had threatened them.
"We didn't know what to do."
Kotze told Bonnette:
"Bokkie don't be angry, these men won't kill you."
Sithole explained how Kotze pulled tape over Bonnette's head and
mouth. Kotze pulled down her pants and told him to pull down his
pants and prepare himself for raping Bonnette.
"I didn't know... I was shocked... I was scared. My knees were
shaking against the bed. She must have seen how scared I was."
He testified he could not get an erection and Kotze told him to
hold his penis. Kotze lifted Bonnette's blouse and told Sithole to
touch her breasts to get an erection.
"Then I
told him I can't... I constantly told him I can't do it."
He explained how he then faked having sex with her.
"He told me to climb off. I'm hopeless."
Sithole
said Kotze ordered Mohlane and Mphaka to also rape Bonnette, but
they could not and also faked it. Kotze said they were useless and
told them to leave the room.
Bonnette attended
Monday's proceedings but briefly left during Sithole's testimony.

The trail of the man dubbed the "Modimolle monster", Johan Kotze,
was postponed in the High Court in Pretoria on Wednesday.
Judge Bert Bam said the matter was scheduled to resume on Monday
morning.
Before proceedings concluded on
Wednesday the State brought an application to reopen its case.
"The evidence has relation to the accused's accountability during
the incident," prosecutor Retha Meintjes said.
Bam would consider the application after receiving an objection
from Kotze's defence. His defence team closed its case after
cross-examination of clinical psychologist Tertia Spangenberg was
completed.
Kotze is accused of mutilating and
orchestrating the gang-rape of Ina Bonnette and murdering his
stepson Conrad, 19, in his rented home in Modimolle on January 3,
2012. At the time Bonnette was still married to Kotze, but lived
in her own flat.

Spangenberg, called by Kotze's defence, told the court Kotze could
possibly have altered his testimony concerning his finances.
She said during cross-examination it would be difficult for a
narcissist, which she believed Kotze was, to discuss financial
problems. She said he would want to keep up his social standing
and the way he was perceived.
Francois van As,
for two of Kotze's co-accused, asked her if this would have
influenced his testimony on his finances.
"It
would have influenced his testimony," she said.
At which point Bam asked whether the rest of his testimony could
also have been influenced.
Spangenberg said this
would not necessarily be the case. She said Kotze's narcissism
crumbled when he lost face in public after being accused of murder
and assault.
Van As asked whether this meant
Kotze was no longer a narcissist.
Spangenberg
answered: "No that is not what I meant. He still is one".
On Tuesday and throughout Wednesday morning Spangenberg was
cross-examined on differences between her report on Kotze and that
of another clinical psychologist.
Spangenberg
found he was not accountable for his actions. She found Kotze had
a narcissistic personality disorder, major depression, and
untreated and unresolved acute stress disorder, which resulted in
a state of psychological dissociation during the attack.
She said individuals with his narcissistic disorder were noted for
their egotistic self-involvement.
According to
her findings, Kotze was obsessed with Bonnette. When he saw her
with another man on New Year's Eve 2011 it caused trauma, which
led to stress disorder.
In contrast clinical
psychologist Dirk Coetzee, who assessed Kotze at Weskoppies
psychiatric hospital in Pretoria, found he could be held
criminally responsible for his actions. His report was handed in
as evidence on Tuesday afternoon.
"At the time
of the commission of the offence the accused was criminally
responsible for the offence charged, and was capable of
appreciating the wrongfulness of his act and could act in
accordance with an appreciation of the wrongfulness of his act,"
Coetzee's report read.
Coetzee spent
seven-and-a-half hours assessing Kotze at Weskoppies. This was
spread over five visits. He described Kotze as co-operative and
attentive during interviews.
"At the time of the
incident he did not suffer from any clinical psychiatric
disorder."
Coetzee said Kotze showed traits of a
compulsive personality. Some depressive symptoms were also noted.
On Wednesday the State put it to Spangenberg that she merely
referred to the parts in Coetzee's report which supported her own
conclusion.
"This is not true," she said, adding
there were numerous issues in the report she agreed and disagreed
with.
She said there were areas in Coetzee's
report she found odd, such as his description of Kotze and his
tone of voice as calm during his assessments.
"It was my colleague's evaluation and his findings. It was not my
place [to point out my disagreement]."
She said
it was equally odd that Coetzee reported Kotze could recall the
day of the attack in detail.
Spangenberg said
this made her question if the matter was properly dealt with. She
explained that Kotze could not recall parts of that day and became
emotional when she evaluated him.
"I have my
reservations about things which could possibly have been left
out."

Police have arrested Johan Kotze, who is accused of orchestrating
a gruesome assault on his estranged wife and of killing his
teenage stepson, Limpopo police said on Wednesday.
"The elusive Johan Kotze, who evaded police capture has finally
been arrested," said Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi.
"He was arrested this morning in Modimolle at about 11.45am. He
has been on the run since last week... The suspect will appear
before the Modimolle Magistrate's Court soon."
Kotze, 50, had been on the run since the assault and murder in
Modimolle a week ago.
A 42-year-old man who was
allegedly forced to participate in the attack was arrested in
Makapanstad near Hammanskraal north of Pretoria earlier on
Wednesday.
On Tuesday night, police recovered
Kotze's Toyota Fortuner in Modimolle and Mulaudzi warned that his
arrest was imminent.
