Satanist Cannibal Killer Gregory Hale Emulated The Night Stalker – ‘I Am Beyond Good And Evil’

RadarOnline.com

June 17, 2014

If imitation were the sincerest form of flattery, then Richard “Night Stalker” Ramirez would be extremely flattered if he were still alive today.

Gregory Scott Hale, 37, admitted to police that he picked up a mother of six and murdered, dismembered and ate parts of her body to emulate his role model – the 1980s sadistic California serial killer the Night Stalker.

Hale also told police that he took Marie Hyder, 36, to his parents’ Tennessee home where he lived to do all of these things as part of a satanic ritual. Hale allegedly read Ramirez’s “manifesto” obsessively, to the point where he followed it to a T.

Psychiatrist and serial killer expert Dr. Park Dietz, who interviewed Ramirez in prison, said, “Hale thought he, too, was the Night Stalker. He identified with Ramirez, looked up to him and idolized him.”

Although Hale has no former run-ins with the law, Dr. Dietz believes that Hale likely staged “rehearsals” where he would stalk women “imagining how it would be to rape, kill or capture them.”

Dr. Steven Egger, associate professor of criminology at the University of Houston in Clear Lake, Texas, said that if Hale hadn’t been caught after his first murder, he probably would have gone on to murder others.

“Killers are motivated by power, dominance and having control over somebody else,” Dr. Egger said. “They like to play God. Hale was not a skilled, practiced killer. I think he was just getting started.”

However, not everything turned out as planned for Hale, as he was caught after he asked a neighbor to help him dispose of Hyder’s body. He confessed to everything and even told them extremely gruesome details.

“Subject beheaded her and cut off her hands, placing her head and hands in a plastic bucket,” the police report states. “He cut off her feet and other body parts, placing them in another bucket, and buried the victim’s torso in a burn pile at the residence.”

During his trial, Ramirez drew pentagram symbols on his hand and shouted, “Hail Satan!”

Ramirez often wrote about his dark thoughts and posted comments on social media, too. In his Facebook posts, Hale once wrote, “I hug the people I hate to I know how big to dig the hole in my backyard.”

But Dr. Dietz believes Hale ultimately confessed because he wants to be remembered as a notorious criminal.

“Many serial killers admit to comparing their ‘body count’ to other serial killers and reading books on serial killers. Like anyone else, they have curiosity about people like them. They don’t want to feel alone.

“They want to feel special, but not be the only one.”

Last Friday afternoon, Lisa Hyder, a mother of six, called her ex-husband shortly after meeting a stranger in a Tennessee liquor store who offered her a ride home.

Just hours later, the 36-year-old woman was murdered, dismembered and partially cannibalized by suspected Satanist Gregory Scott Hale, according to police.

Three days after Hale's arrest on charges of premeditated first-degree murder and abuse of a corpse, new shocking details are beginning to emerge about the case that left a small Tennessee community reeling.

According to Lisa Hyder's ex-husband, Charles Hyder, the mother of their six children had struggled with alcoholism and was recently diagnosed with ovarian cancer, WZTV reported.

The woman lived in a Chattanooga suburb and worked in a store selling spirits in Manchester, where on Friday afternoon she ran into Gregory Hale.

At around 2.30pm, she called her ex-husband asking to pick her up, but he said he was in another town. He told her to wait for him, but when Mr Hyder returned home two hours later and called Lisa back, her phone was not answering.

Charles Hyder said he spent the weekend trying to reach his ex-wife so their children, the youngest of them just a year old, could talk to her like they did every day, but he could not get a hold of her.

‘I still blame myself because I didn't go get her, but I was down in Huntsville unloading my truck, and I wished I could have been there a little bit faster,’ Hyder said. ‘Usually I rescue her every time something goes wrong.’

The couple were married for six years before splitting last year. The mother of six had a longstanding problem with alcohol and refused to get treatment for her cancer. But Charles Hyder said no matter what she had done, he loved her.

Lisa Hyder's family say they plan to push for a death penalty for her alleged killer.

‘My daughter was mangled, butchered and chopped up like a liver. There's nothing left,’ her heartbroken father, Billy Poore, told the station WAAY.

A clearer picture also has begun to emerge of the suspected killer and cannibal, Gregory Hale.

The 37-year-old was known among his neighbors and acquaintances as a devil worshiper.

He was reportedly fired from a meat processing plant after the owner caught him performing a satanic ritual.

The proprietor of the slaughterhouse recalled that Hale would often take animal bones and eyeballs home with him.

His Facebook page is filled with disturbing, sexually explicit and grisly images, as well as references to cannibalism and Scandinavian mythology.

'Would tha vegetarian taste like that fake soy meat like they got in sum fast food places???' he wrote in April.

According to his social media account, the 37-year-old has a girlfriend and a teenage son named after a Norse god.

Some of Hale's selfies depict him brandishing weapons, including a large steel machete, or cradling snakes.

The 37-year-old also shared an image that featured a line of text that read: 'I hug the people I hate so I know how big to dig their hole in my backyard.'

Coffee County District Attorney Mickey Layne said Hale was apprehended at his home late Sunday after a neighbor told police he'd had a conversation with the 37-year-old and had reason to believe a homicide had been committed.

When officers arrived at the home, Layne said they found human remains on the grounds. They then questioned Hale and took him into custody.

Hale has an attorney and is being held in jail on $1.5million bond. His next court date is June 23.

Detectives believe the gruesome murder took place inside Hale's rural home on Pete Sain Road in Manchester Friday.

According to Hale's arrest affidavit, the suspect admitted to killing Lisa Hyder and then disposing of her body by beheading the victim and chopping off her hands and feet.

Officers who responded to Hale's residence after receiving a tip found at least two plastic buckets filled with human remains.

Hale buried the victim's torso in a burn pile on his property and consumed a part of the corpse, the document stated.

Following his arrest, Hale told police he and Hyder did not know each other until they met in Manchester and went to the man's home, Times Free Press reported.

The two were sitting around the fire and talking when the 37-year-old allegedly attacked and killed Hyder.

Gregory Hale offered investigators no motive for the brutal slaying and subsequent cannibalism.

Family of slain Lisa Hyder discusses her life and gruesome death

MANCHESTER, Tenn. (WAAY) - A Tennessee man is in jail after authorities said he admitted killing a woman and eating part of her body.

Gregory S. Hale, 37, was arrested late Sunday night and charged with premeditated first-degree murder and abuse of a corpse in the death of Lisa Marie Hyder who spent many of her teenage years in Athens, AL. According to an arrest affidavit, Coffee County authorities received information that a murder had occurred June 6 and went to Hale's home on Pete Sain Road in Summitville TN.

Authorities found partial remains of Hyder's dismembered body during a search of the home, according to the affidavit. Authorities said Hyder's head, hands and feet had been cut off and her torso buried in a burn pile at Hale's home. Hale also reportedly admitted to eating part of the victim’s body after killing her.

Several members of Hyder’s family live in Fayetteville TN and are speaking out about her life and the circumstances of her death.

"The way she had to leave this world is not right,” said Hyder’s cousin Samantha Paas. Samantha and her sister Amanda learned of their cousin’s death Monday.

Lisa reportedly did not know Hale; according to her ex-husband Charles Hyder, Lisa met Hale at a liquor store Friday night, a claim police confirm.

"She had suffered from an addiction to alcohol probably her whole life," said Amanda who went on to say that her addiction was likely part of the reason she had drifted away from family members the past few years.

"She had some troubles, she had a really rocky life and we say that she was a lost soul," she said.

One of the more troubling aspects of this case is the fact that Lisa 2 of her ex-husbands asking just hours before police believe she was killed. Charles Hyder, the father of 2 of her 6 children say he was supposed to pick her up Friday evening to bring her to his home in Dunlap but she quit answering the phone that evening.

Another one of her ex-husbands who lives in Georgia told family members she called him Saturday morning and left a voice mail begging him to come get her. He says when he tried to return the call there was no answer.

Family members say although Lisa had been a bit adrift in recent years they always held out hope that she would turn her life around.

"It's so gruesome and devastating to see someone, to see a family member or anybody, to lose their life in such a horrible way," Amanda said while fighting back tears.

"So many people in your life tried to help but it was not enough. God finally said enough is enough. He loves you and will now give you the love you have always been wanting so desperately," Samantha read, the words from her aunt who wrote them to Hyder after learning of her fate.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Stanford Reed Funeral Home. Family members say her body will be cremated once it is released. Hyder was mother to 6 children who all live with their fathers.

Hale is currently being held on 1 point 5 million dollars bond and is due in court June 23rd.

Tennessee man killed, dismembered and ate woman before burying leftover body parts: police

Gregory Hale, 37, admitted to police that he cut off Lisa Marie Hyder's head, feet and hands before burying the 36-year-old's torso in a burn pile. The alleged 'devil worshipper' also ate some of the woman and asked a neighbor in Summitville for help disposing of a body, police said.

A Satanic worshipper in Tennessee killed, dismembered and ate a woman he had just met in a disturbing ritualistic murder, police said.

Cops learned of Gregory Hale’s gruesome secret when the 37-year-old asked a friend for help in disposing of a body, The Tullahoma News reported.

By that point, Hale had already allegedly killed and beheaded Lisa Marie Hyder, 36, then cut off her hands and placed them in a plastic bucket. He also allegedly cut of her feet and other body parts and placed them in another bucket before burying the woman’s torso under a burn pile behind his home.

When cops caught up to and arrested Hale on Sunday, he admitted to the gruesome crime, cops said. Hale also told cops he ate part of the woman, whom he had met the day she died, which prosecutors believe was on Friday, WSMV-TV reported.

The alleged killer’s Facebook page is filled with images and descriptions of blood, gore and killing. In one recent post, Hale shared a photo that read, “I hug the people I hate so I know how big to dig the hole in my backyard.”

In another, in just April, he wrote about being a cannibal and eating a vegetarian.

“would tha vegetarian taste like that fake soy meat like they got in sum fast food places???” he wrote, perhaps as a joke.

A post in February was dedicated to serial killer Richard Ramirez, who died in a California prison last June.

“R.I.P. Night Stalker….Wish I could have met U…” he wrote.

In several photos, Hale snaps himself carrying long-bladed knives and weapons, sometimes wearing masks. Several posts and pictures are about the metal band Slayer.

Hale at one point worked at a slaughterhouse in rural Coffee County, WSMV reported. Former co-workers recalled him as bizarre, and said he’d bring home animal body parts such as bones, blood and eyeballs, the news station reported.

One neighbor told the station the alleged cannibal was a devil worshipper.

"We will certainly be looking into everything that we're hearing. As you can image the things that you're hearing are the same things that we're hearing," Assistant District Attorney Marla Holloway told WSMV.

Hale and the victim met for the first time at a liquor store Friday night, distraught family members told WAAY-TV.

Hyder battled alcohol addiction and was a “lost soul” who’d had a “rocky life,” a cousin told the news station.

"It's so gruesome and devastating to see someone, to see a family member or anybody, to lose their life in such a horrible way," Amanda Paas told WAAY.

Hale is charged with murder and abusing a corpse, and held in lieu of $1.5 million bond. He's due in court next week.

Suspect arrested in gruesome Coffee County murder

Reported by Larry Flowers - Wsmv.com

June 9, 2014

SUMMITVILLE, TN (WSMV) - New information is emerging after a man was charged with murdering a woman over the weekend in a rural part of Coffee County.

Sheriff Steve Graves said 37-year-old Gregory Scott Hale is charged with first-degree murder and abuse of a corpse in connection with the death, which occurred at Hale's residence on Pete Sain Road in the Summitville area.

Officials say the victim has been identified as Lisa Marie Hyder of DeKalb County.

"Lisa was a sweet girl, very pretty girl. I can't believe anyone would want to do that to her," said friend Vicki Keenan.

Graves said deputies learned about the murder on Sunday night and said Hale was allegedly attempting to get help disposing of the body.

Some of the details of the discovery were so gruesome, even the assistant district attorney couldn't talk about them Monday.

"We are very early in the investigation. The officers were out late last night into the early hours of the morning gathering information," said Assistant DA Marla Holloway.

According to an affidavit, Hale admitted to the murder. He told investigators he dismembered Hyder's body and buried her torso in a burn pile at his home. He also admitted to eating part of the victim after murdering her.

"I think they're very sick people that's what I think. I think anybody that would do that to somebody, they're very sick and do need help," Keenan said.

There are some disturbing posts on the suspect's Facebook page. Back in February, he posted a tribute and goodbye to serial killer Richard Ramirez who had recently died.

In April, he jokingly asked his followers a question about becoming a cannibal.

And there were also photos of him wearing a mask and holding what appears to be a long blade with a bone as a handle.

Sheriff's officials received a tip that the death happened on or about Friday.

Several neighbors described Hale as a sick man, and one even called him a devil worshiper, something authorities are also hearing.

"We will certainly be looking into everything that we're hearing. As you can image the things that you're hearing are the same things that we're hearing," Holloway said.

Channel 4 News has also learned Hale once worked at a meat processing plant in the Hillsboro community in Coffee County. Sources who knew him say Hale would take home bones, blood and eyeballs of animals from the plant.

"That's terrible. It's got to be a very sick mind to do something like that," Keenan said.

Hale is jailed on $1.5 million bond and is due in court on June 23.
